The Future of AI in Control of Work

Permit-to-work systems already contain some of the most valuable safety data on site. Hazards, isolations, approvals, controls and shift handovers are recorded every day - but much of that information is never used beyond the immediate task.This session explores how AI could change that. From supervisors asking plain-language questions of live permits, to risk assessments that identify missing controls before approval, and shift logs that summarise themselves, AI is opening up new ways to make safety information more useful on the ground.We’ll also look further ahead to the predictive potential of AI: identifying emerging hazard trends before they become incidents. Just as importantly, we’ll examine the limits. In a safety-critical environment, AI must support human judgement - not replace it. The person responsible for the work remains accountable, and every recommendation must be explainable.
